Nutrition
The two most important ingredients to a healthy lifestyle are nutrition and exercise. Most of us eat twice as much and exercise half as much as we think we do. It 's helpful to eat six small portions a day with your breakfast being the most substantial meal and dinner being the smallest ...more like a snack. Remember, you are in charge of what you eat if you overeat one day, it is okay to eat less the next day.
Here are the top ten tips for healthy eating.
- Center your diet on fruits and vegetables. Try to eat eight vegetables and three fruits per day.
- Eat fruits and vegetables that have intense color. When you shop, buy two orange/yellow, two blue/purple. two dark green leafy and two red fruits or vegetables and eat that level of variety each day. It is a rule of thumb in nature that the more intense the color, the more likely you are getting great nutritional value.
- Drink water. About a gallon of water a day should keep you hydrated, and be sure to drink during exercise.
- Eat out no more than once a week. Order soup and salad when you eat out and do not take a menu.
- Eat very slowly and put the fork down after every bite. It is okay to leave food on your plate.
- Try new and unusual foods.
- Aim to eat a large breakfast, large lunch, two or three snacks, and no dinner.
- Eat fish two to three times a week.
- Eliminate high fat deserts from your diet unless it is a special occasion such as your birthday or anniversary.
- Eat to live, do not live to eat.
